I tell Paul this morning that I have posted about him on my blog. He says he hopes I said something nice, of course I say. His wife is a Buddhist and he shows me her picture, she looks familiar. Joe drives me crazy, preaching the gospel. Paul says we sound like an old married couple. Joe tells me to go to his church, I say but Joe, I can not ever believe in your religion, it would be false for me to go there. He still tries to convince me. At 10 we take a brief break, my brain gets fried from too much typing, editing and revising, reading a very funny email we are laughing hysterically, the director speaks to us about staying on task. Joe says if we had a cigarette in our hands and were standing outside no one would have said a word. Once we have stopped laughing we go back to work with a vengence and barely notice when it is time for lunch. It is a beautiful warm (finally!) summer day. After lunch I ask this cute young latino his name in Spanish…a language I still speak so poorly, he corrects my Spanish but doesn’t tell me his name, thanks I say but really what is your name? He laughs. He shows me his art and the art of this other amazing artist David “RC” Oster I show him my art, and by way of it my photos, and he laughs when he sees my pictures of the garden, he pulls out his cell phone and shows me pictures of his vegetable garden, close ups of squash. I love it! I get home and shake my head sadly at my disaster of a garden. The eight foot tall fronds of goldenrod, the milkweed growing in my thyme, the self seeded purple coneflower (echinacea) its koosh ball tops all over the yard; but, last night I saw lightning bugs, today a million bees and butterflys. I guess it is okay, but it is also a giant mess.
