About two weeks ago, I decided to start pulling up the thistle in the back yard. I got about halfway done and quit. This is what remains. I want to leave it, it’s in an area that is not really used much in the yard, because I think the purple flowers are so pretty. The hubby says he wants it all out. You can sort of see my bedraggled forsythia in the background. We lived here about 4 years before I realized there was even one there. It was hacked basically almost to death. When we were forced to chop down the black walnut that borders our property and the neighbor, because it was literally on their roof. We have another black walnut that we acquired with the house that hangs over the driveway, word to the wise: never EVER plant a nut tree so that it hangs over your driveway. EVER!! When those nuts fall they hit your car with such a force that alarms are set off, dents are made and plastic parts on windshield wipers and hoods are quickly disintegrated. Anyway, after we cut the black walnut tree, suddenly this area began to get alot more sun, so now the forsythia is blooming albeit with less joyous abandon than most.
